Highlights in the life of James Monsen

Amongst Alice Hafen's things we found a little brown book entitled "Highlights in the life of James Monsen". We had never seen this book before and found it to be a treasure trove of history.  James Monsen was an original member of the Mt. Pleasant Pioneer Historical Association and the mayor of Mt. Pleasant when the Pioneer Memorial was erected.

Fiftieth Anniversary Celebrated

Early in February 1909, there was called a mass meeting by Mayor James Monsen, for the purpose of deciding the advisability of a celebration sometime during the year, honoring the fiftieth anniversary of the settling of Mt. Pleasant.

It was decided at this meeting to hold a three day celebration beginning on the 5th day of July.  (page 183 History of Mt. Pleasant by Hilda Madsen Longsdorf)

We will post  some of the stories here on our blog and then take it to the Relic Home where everyone can refer to it for future generations to come.
