Resident of Grangeville, Idaho, 1941-1951; member of state legislature in 1947; Governor of Idaho, 1951-1955; chairman of the International Development Advisory Board, 1958-1959; appointed as a Republican to the United States Senate, 6 August 1962, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Henry C.
