RAINBOW FISHERIES

About 2 to 3 miles west of town was "sort of resort" named Rainbow Fisheries. It was owned by Ras Anderson. The remnants can be seen today. There were three ponds. One pond for swimming, one pond for fishing, and one pond for boating. The resort was located on the original road to Moroni. This road was located a half mile south off the road that takes you to Moroni now.  The road was moved north to avoid the marshy ground along the Sanpitch River. The area is now owned by the Leo Gillespie Family, who raise cattle.

JAMES MARTIN ALLRED AND 1ST WIFE CHRISTIANA GUSTAVE ANDERSON (From our archives)

Sam said...
What a wonderful surprise to see this post!

There is so much more I could tell you about this house. One brief story. When I was a boy in the late 50's, the west wall of adobes started to collapse. Dad wanted to shore up the wall and pour concrete as a foundation, at least in the damaged section. Our job as boys was to crawl under the house and excavate the space under the crumbling adobes so the concrete foundation could be poured. Up until that time the only foundation to the home was logs placed on rocks. I have no idea why my dad decided to send his boys on such a dangerous job.

I do regret tearing down the old house. We should have built the new house across the creek.

Agreed! The old home shouldn't have been torn down. It changed so much.
Unknown said...
Yes, something was lost with the old home being torn down.

KINEMA BURNS

The Elite Theater was built in 1913.

In the late 1920s,
L.C. and Nada Lund changed the name of the movie house to Star Theater.  Their son, Truxton, later took over the family business and changed the name Kinema.

The theater, which was considered fireproof when it was built, burned down in 1990.

Did you Know?  Kinema  is  the British Version of Cinema.    and there are or were hundreds of Kinema's across the United States and world.

The word ‘cinema’ comes from ‘Kinema’-toscope and is derived from the Greek word kinema-matos meaning the science of pure motion.

..And I always thought that it was a cute expression of    "Kinna Ma Go to the Movies?"

Our Relic Home on the far left.

December 25th, 1912 the Elite Theatre, now the Star, presented their first show. Prior to this, some show places had been operating, among them the one on State Street, conducted by C. Purrington.  History of Mt. Pleasant, Hilda Madsen Longsdorf p. 197

LuAnn Hamilton Greenwell, Milburn.

Sade Rigby (Sarah) is Kathy Rigby Hafen's Grandmother. (She is the tall lady in back and center).  I don't see Aunt Mary Jensen.  She was grandma Rigby's  sister and was also a member of this club.

Note: Sade Rigby is listed as Sarah Rigby on Grandma's handwritten note.
