Melba Fay Shelley Hill

December 6, 1941 ~ July 20, 2020

Melba Fay Shelley Hill was born December 6, 1941, in Mountainville, Utah, to John and Fannie Shelley. Melba was blessed to be raised on the farm with eight brothers. After she graduated from North Sanpete High School, she went to work in Salt Lake City, where she met Donald E Hill. They were married in the Manti Temple on April 13, 1961. They had three children: Shelley, David, & Valerie and also welcomed Leonard Stewart into their family for several years. The family moved from Midvale, Utah, back to Mt. Pleasant, Utah, in 1972, where Melba wanted to raise her children closer to family and out of the big city.

Melba was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, including as Relief Society teacher, Young Women president, and family history consultant, but her favorite callings were with the children as Primary chorister, Primary teacher, or Cub Scout leader. Melba loved children, and she had a talent for creating fun activities and memories for her own children and grandchildren, as well as for many young relatives and friends. Like the Pied Piper, she could often be found leading a group of children for a walk in the creek, hunting for buttercup flowers, creating giant bubbles, hiding in the “thicket” under the dining table, or searching for treasures with her metal detector.

Melba loved being outside in nature. She had a sharp eye for birdwatching, hunting for arrow heads, star gazing, and collecting sea shells in Northern California. She loved long lunch breaks walking in the hills with Don. She also enjoyed years of early-morning walks with her friends. She expressed her appreciation for the beauty of the world through her artwork, using oils, watercolors, and charcoal.

While she was raising her kids, Melba had several jobs to help provide for her family. She worked as a lunch lady, custodian, and babysitter to the Hobby kids, who grew to call her Mommy Hill. Melba became a case manager for Central Utah Counseling Center in Ephraim, where she was known for her kind heart and listening ear.

After she retired in 2006, Melba served in the California Santa Rosa Mission of the Church. Later, she felt she wasn’t doing enough with her life, so she served two more missions: one in the Family & Church History Mission in Salt Lake City, and one in the Family History Mission from her home. She also served in the Manti Temple. Melba’s life exemplified love, selfless service, kindness, peace, and gentleness.

Melba passed away at her son’s home on Monday, July 20, 2020. Melba is preceded in death by her parents and by her sweetheart, Don. She will be thrilled to be reunited with him after 21 years! Melba is survived by their children, Shelley (Jeff) Trump of Round Lake, IL, David (Jeana) Hill of Herriman, UT, and Valerie (Shayne) Stegman of Mesa, AZ, as well as by 8 beloved grandchildren: Liz, William, Jake (Heidi), Jaylynn (Jordan), Janesa (Mike), Bryant, Chad, & Emerie. Family has been the joy of her life! Melba is also survived by her 8 brothers and their spouses: Lloyd & Virginia (Cedar City), Ben & Sandy (Bountiful), Ross & Nadene (Nephi), Ervin & Loretta (Fairview), Ivan & Dawn (Oak Creek), Lowell & Barby (Salt Lake City), Hal & Becky (Mountainville), and Louis & Nancy (Price).

A viewing will be held at Rasmussen Mortuary, 96 N 100 W, Mt. Pleasant, on Monday, July 27, 6-8pm. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 28th at 11am at the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery.

President Donald J. Trump Proclaims Memorial Day, May 29, 2017, as a Day of Prayer for Permanent Peace

PRAYER FOR PEACE, MEMORIAL DAY, 2017

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

Memorial Day is our Nation's solemn reminder that freedom is never free.  It is a moment of collective reflection on the noble sacrifices of those who gave the last measure of devotion in service of our ideals and in the defense of our Nation.  On this ceremonious day, we remember the fallen, we pray for a lasting peace among nations, and we honor these guardians of our inalienable rights.  

This year, we commemorate the centennial anniversary of America's entry into World War I.  More than 4.7 million Americans served during The Great War, representing more than 25 percent of the American male population between the ages of 18 and 31 at the time.  We remember the more than 100,000 Americans who sacrificed their lives during "The War to End All Wars," and who left behind countless family members and loved ones.  We pause again to pray for the souls of those heroes who, one century ago, never returned home after helping to restore peace in Europe.

On Memorial Day we honor the final resting places of the more than one million men and women who sacrificed their lives for our Nation, by decorating their graves with the stars and stripes, as generations have done since 1868.  We also proudly fly America's beautiful flag at our homes, businesses, and in our community parades to honor their memory.  In doing so, we pledge our Nation's allegiance to the great cause of freedom for which they fought and ultimately died.

In honor and recognition of all of our fallen service members, the Congress, by a joint resolution approved May 11, 1950, as amended (36 U.S.C. 116), has requested the President issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe each Memorial Day as a day of prayer for permanent peace and designating a period on that day when the people of the United States might unite in prayer.  The Congress, by Public Law 106-579, has also designated 3:00 p.m. local time on that day as a time for all Americans to observe, in their own way, the National Moment of Remembrance.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim Memorial Day, May 29, 2017, as a day of prayer for permanent peace, and I designate the hour beginning in each locality at 11:00 a.m. of that day as a time when people might unite in prayer.  I urge the press, radio, television, and all other information media to cooperate in this observance.

I further ask all Americans to observe the National Moment of Remembrance beginning at 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day.  

I also request the Governors of the United States and its Territories, and the appropriate officials of all units of government, to direct that the flag be flown at half-staff until noon on this Memorial Day on all buildings, grounds, and naval vessels throughout the United States and in all areas under its jurisdiction and control.  I also request the people of the United States to display the flag at half-staff from their homes for the customary forenoon period.

GIVE THEIR CHILDREN A POSITIVE UPBRINGING.       MELANIAS MOTHER,

AMALIJA ULCNIK, WORKED DEVELOPING PATTERNS AT A FACTORY THAT MANUFACTURED

CHILDRENS CLOTHING. SHE HAD MET VIKTOR KNAVS IN 1966 WHO WORKED AS A

CHAUFFEUR FOR A NEARBY TOWNS MAYOR.   THEY INSTILLED MELANIA AND HER

SISTER WITH CONSERVATIVE VALUES SUCH AS PUTTING FAMILY FIRST AND HAVING

EXCEPTIONAL WORK ETHIC. AFTER LOOKING AT THE PICTURE OF MELANIAS PARENTS

OF PHOTOGRAPHER STANE JERKO, WHOSE TEST PHOTOS OF THE BREATHTAKING TEENAGER

RESULTED IN HER SIGNING WITH A MODELING AGENCY IN MILAN.       DESPITE

PARTY, NOR DID SHE SMOKE. EVEN WITH THE TEMPTATIONS SURROUNDING HER AS A

COLLEGE STUDENT AND SUCCESSFUL MODEL, MELANIA LIVED A QUIET HOMEBOUND LIFE.

WANTED TO ACHIEVE HER GOALS SHE WOULD HAVE TO MOVE TO AMERICA.         

  SHORTLY AFTER SHE BEGAN PURSUING HER MODELING DREAMS IN AMERICA, MELANIA

STRUGGLED TO FIND WORK BECAUSE SHE WAS CONSIDERED "TOO OLD." THE MODELING

INDUSTRY ISNT FRIENDLY TO MODELS ONCE THEY HIT THEIR LATER TWENTIES, AND AT

JUST 26-YEARS-OLD, MELANIA WAS WORRIED HER BEST DAYS WERE ALREADY BEHIND

HER.   MELANIA WENT TO CASTINGS EVERY DAY, BUT PHOTOGRAPHERS CONTINUED

PICKING SOMEONE ELSE OVER HER, AND OFTEN SOMEONE YOUNGER. SHE WAS HAVING A

DIFFICULT TIME SUPPORTING HERSELF, AND ENDURED THE CHALLENGING SEASON WHILE

BEING OVERSEAS, AWAY FROM HER TIGHT-KNIT FAMILY BACK IN SLOVENIA.

YORK MAGAZINE, THE SPORTS ILLUSTRATED SWIMSUIT ISSUE, ALLURE, SELF,

GLAMOUR, VANITY FAIR, AND ELLE.         WHILE AT A PARTY DURING THE NEW

YORK FASHION WEEK IN THE FALL OF 1998, MELANIA MET . SHE WAS A TALL, SHY

BRUNETTE AT JUST 28-YEARS-OLD - WHILE TRUMP WAS A BRASH 52-YEAR-OLD REAL

PERSONALITY AND CONTROVERSIAL BEHAVIOR.      MELANIAS TRADITIONAL VALUES

CAN BE SEEN IN HER ABSENCE FROM TRUMPS CAMPAIGN TRAIL. INSTEAD OF BEING ON

THE ROAD WITH HER HUSBAND, MELANIA CHOSE TO BE AT HOME IN NEW YORK CITY TO

RAISE THEIR 10-YEAR-OLD SON, BARRON.      _"ITS MY CHOICE NOT TO BE THERE

[ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL]," MELANIA SAID. "I SUPPORT MY HUSBAND 100 PERCENT,

if you would want to call them a performance," Donald Trump said. "But she

said, You could tone it down a little bit on occasion, which I

ABOUT HER HUSBAND IS THE PERCEPTION THAT HES "NASTY."   _"Hes not,"

Melania said. "He has a big heart and [a] very warm heart. You see who he

is on the campaign trail all the time and on television, and I think - you

know America needs a strong leader and a tough leader and [he] knows what
