The monument was unveiled by Mrs. Sarah Borg, who was the second girl born in Mt. Pleasant. When released by her from as fastenings, the flag with which the monument was covered, fluttered slowly to the ground, and amid the cheer of the vast crowd gathered, the beautiful shaft was revealed in all its splendor and glory; a splendid, fitting tribute destined to stand throughout the years to come, to the work, trials and achievements of the Pioneers.
