BORN: October 30, 1847 in Vester Bronderslev, Hjrring, Denmark to Jens Anderson and Maren
Pedersen.
MARRIED: October 4, 1873 to Margrethe Anderson
October 15, 1885 to Matilda Justesen
CHILDREN: With Margrethe: Jennis, Seymour, Morgan, Arthur and a daughter who died at birth,
along with her mother.
Jacob had the following children with Matilda: Ada, Dora, Fergus, Don, Lola, Geniel and Russell
Jacob Jensen (later known as Johnson) was born on October 30, 1847 in Vester Bronderslev,
Denmark. He was christened on November 1, 1847. Jacob’s father died when he was just two
years old. He had a brother who was two years older, named Christen, and an older halfbrother named Jens Christian Jensen. (He was the son of Jacob’s father, Jens Jensen and his first
wife, Maren Christensen.) Jacob’s mother, Maren, married again to a man named Jens Christian
Sorenson. They had four children: Jens Peter Jensen, Soren Christian Jensen, Johanne Marie
Jensen and Willard Richards Jensen. .
Jacob’s family met the Mormon Missionaries in Denmark and were converted to the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They joined with many other Scandinavian Saints to travel
west to Utah. They began their long journey on the ship, the John Boyd which left Liverpool,
England on December 12, 1855 bound for New York City. On board were 437 Saints from
Denmark, Sweden and Norway, 30 from Italy and 42 from Great Britain. They were under the
direction of Elder Knud Peterson, who had recently returned from a mission to Norway. The
ship landed at New York on February 15, 1856.
The passengers on the John Boyd arrived in New York and were processed through Castle
Garden (later called Ellis Island.) They then traveled by rail via Dunkirk, Cleveland and on to
Chicago, where the company was then divided into three parts. One group of 150 went to
Burlington, Iowa, one to Alton, Illinois and a third to St. Louis, Missouri. Most of the people who
were in Burlington and Alton remained there for a year or more and worked so that they could
earn enough money to continue on their journey. Those that went to St. Louis joined the
general emigration that crossed the plains in 1856.
The Sorenson family (which consisted of Jens, Maren, Jens Peter (age 5), Soren Christian (age
4), Johanne Marie (age 3), Willard Richards (age 1) Jacob (age 8), Christian (age 10) and Jens
Christian (18) made the long, difficult crossing to Utah. They moved to Ogden, Weber County to
settle. Upon their arrival in Utah, Maren and Jens became acquainted with a group called “The
Morrisites.” The Morrisites were an apostate group that had split from the LDS Church.
Jens' second wife was Anna Katrina Miller. They had one child, they named her Mary. Then Anna died a week later. 
Jens married Ana Marie Christopherson in 1876
Their children's names are: Kate Diantha and Annie.
Jens C. Jensen is also listed on the Mt. Pleasant Pioneer Monument.
