We can't See Horseshoe For the Smoke

Utah is in the middle of a  disastrous drought and fire season.  There are currently nine wildfires in Utah alone.  Hundreds more here in the West.  The two closest to Mt. Pleasant are at Hilltop, north of Milburn.  The other just over the mountain to the northeast of Hilltop near Soldier Summit.  They are calling this the Coal Hollow Fire.

Residents in the Indianola hills and residents of Milburn have had to be evacuated along with their livestock and treasured belongings.  However many have been allowed to go back to their homes today.

Yesterday, as we drove up Spanish Fork Canyon towards home, the gloomy smokey haze was so bad you  wondered if you wanted to travel any further up that road.  Then last night it the Coal Hollow Fire grew to 12 thousand acres.  It accounts for most of the smoke here in Mt. Pleasant.

Newscasters tell us that some of the smoke we are enduring comes from the California wildfires.

This is a picture of Horseshoe Mountain that was take about 5 years ago from the upper deck of the  Relic Home.

This is a picture taken toward Horseshoe Mountain taken today from the same spot as the above photo.  You can't even see the outline of the mountain.

Those of us who are elderly or who have lung or heart conditions have been advised to stay indoors.  The smokey stench is the first thing that you smell in the mornings.  No one wants to go for a pleasant country stroll in this kind of atmosphere.  It is sad in many ways and makes us wonder what the future holds.
