In July 1941, pre Pearl Harbor, we were a peace time Army , small full of new draftees and called up National Guardsmen. The Mt Pleasant unit belonged to the Ninth Corp, Forth Army. General Stillwell commanded the 9th and went onto some fame in WW2. General Dewitt commanded the 4th and his main claim to fame was that he ordered the incarceration of the West coast Japanese. In July of 1941 the men in service were serving their one year and they were then out. The Draft Act was up dated in August to make "service" for the duration and these men served nearly 5 years.
